What does wearing a wrist splint do?

Wearing a wrist splint can provide support and relief from several conditions and injuries.

    • Carpal tunnel. Wearing a wrist splint for carpal tunnel helps reduce pressure on the median nerve and keeps the wrist in a neutral position. It helps with pain management and provides rest from movements that worsen carpal tunnel.

    • Post-surgery. Wrist splints can be worn after surgery to help with pain and healing and to keep the joint stable.

    • Arthritis. A wrist splint helps protect and support arthritic joints.

    • Sprains. After a sprain or injury, a wrist support splint supports the joint during healing to keep it stable and comfortable.

Can I wear a wrist splint all day?

It is not recommended that you wear a wrist splint all day or even for long periods, as this can result in muscle weakness around the wrist, ultimately leading to long-term problems. Wear your wrist splint to do activities that can strain the joint, like housework and gardening.

Is it okay to sleep with a wrist splint?

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort preventing you from sleeping, wearing your wrist splint overnight is okay. Your healthcare provider can advise you on how often to wear a splint.
